The term high reliability organization (HRO) has been echoing through hospitals nationwide—and with good reason. The recent focus on high reliability correlates directly with its potential to help solve two of the biggest challenges in healthcare: improving clinical outcomes and decreasing overall costs. The continued shift from volume to value, the constantly changing regulatory requirements, and emerging healthcare consumerism make it necessary for healthcare organizations to keep reinventing themselves.
