Being hospitalized serves as wake-up call for woman with diabetes

(WHAM) - As a competitive swimmer, Kristen Rusho did not expect the results she got back from her standard sports physical.They did some blood testing, just standard and found my blood glucose was slightly elevated, Rusho said.Rusho was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. As an athlete, she was able to keep her diabetes under control.But once she stopped swimming, Rusho said things changed for her.
I lost that structure, that kind of healthy exercise structure in my life, Rusho said. The healthy eating and I did run into some difficulties managing my diabetes where I was ignoring it.
