The Chronic Illness Experience in Children and Adolescents

Millions of children and adolescents are living with a chronic illness. Statistics in the US show that many adults living with a chronic illness likely developed it before or during adolescence. This indicates there is an opportunity to intervene at an early age, by equipping children and adolescents with the knowledge and skills that may help them better cope with and manage their illness. This approach may in turn reduce the burden of chronic diseases for individuals and healthcare systems as these children become adults.
