Infection prevention continues to be at the forefront of health care. Improvements in infection control and treatment strategies have led to significant decreases in communicable illnesses, such as seasonal flu, c.difficile, and methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). However, several challenges to successful elimination of infection in the physician office setting still remain, especially since physician practices are not governed by the same guidelines as hospitals that are required to have Infection Preventionists (IP) on staff to raise awareness and ensure compliance.
