Behavioral health conditions affect a significant percentage of the country’s population. In 2016, 44.7 million adults in the United States (18.3% of those aged 18 or older) had a mental illness, and 20.1 million (7.5% of those aged 12 or older) had a substance use disorder. Roughly 8.2 million adults had both. Despite this prevalence, many remain undiagnosed or unable to obtain appropriate care.
