Infection Prevention in the NICU

Infections are a major cause of mortality and morbidity, states Dr. John Sparks, MD, from University of Nebraska Medical Center. Thus, it is of utmost importance to pay attention to infection prevention practices within the neonatal intensive care unit. In this new video, Dr. Sparks explains how everything from the construction of the unit to the use of equipment plays a role in infection prevention. Patients in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) are at high risk for healthcare-associated infections. Variability in reported infection rates among NICUs exists, possibly related to differences in prevention strategies.
