Diagnosing Epilepsy in Children

Using cameras and electrodes, children at risk for seizures are monitored at Golisano Children’s Hospital. “These are the brain waves that we are looking at,” explained Dr. Britt Stroud, a pediatric neurologist with Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida.  If Dr. Stroud suspects a child is at risk for epilepsy, he may recommend an EEG study. “If the history is questionable then maybe I would say maybe we should try to come into the monitoring unit and try to capture an event when it actually happens real time,” he said.
