Bearpac Medical Received Inventive Technology Contract for the Passio Pump Drainage System from Vizient

Bearpac Medical, LLC announced that Vizient, Inc., the nation's leading member-driven healthcare performance improvement organization, has awarded Bearpac Medical, LLC an Innovative Technology contract for their Passio Pump Drainage System. The contract was awarded based on hospital experts serving on one of Vizient's member-led councils recommending the Passio Pump Drainage System. It demonstrates to Vizient members that the Passio Pump Drainage System possesses unique characteristics that can improve the healthcare industry.

Innovative technology contracts are proposed after evaluation and engagement with items submitted to Vizient's Innovative Technology Program. Councils headed by Vizient members discover innovations to improve clinical treatment, patient safety, worker safety, or healthcare organizations' business operations.

Bearpac has created a digital handheld control unit with a pump mechanism that evacuates patient fluid into a collecting bag at a vacuum pressure of -45 to -70 cm H2O. This vacuum level is exponentially lower than the competitors. As a result, Passio's simple digital platform empowers malignant pleural effusion (MPE) patients and caregivers to manage their treatment from the comfort of their own homes.

"Bearpac is excited and honored to be recognized by Vizient for the innovation that Passio brings to the MPE drainage space, which has not evolved in over 20 years. We look forward to working with Vizient to offer their members the next generation of pleural drainage therapy."

"Our member councils reviewed and determined the Passio Pump Drainage System should be recognized with an Innovative Technology contract based on its potential to make an incremental difference in health care," said Kelly Flaharty, director of the contract process. "Congratulations to Bearpac on receiving this contract status."

Vizient serves a varied membership base, including university medical centers, pediatric institutions, community hospitals, integrated health delivery networks, and non-acute health care providers, with an annual buying volume of more than $110 billion. Vizient's Innovative Technology Program collaborates with member-led councils and task groups to assess products for their potential to transform health care via true innovation. In addition, Vizient has the right to grant contracts to goods con
