The healthcare industry’s current struggles to reduce costs, improve patient outcomes, and increase access to information are fundamentally transforming the delivery of health services. To help understand how hospitals and health systems are thinking about modernizing their IT and network infrastructure to support digital transformation, HIMSS Media and Juniper Networks recently conducted a joint survey among IT decision makers at U.S. healthcare providers.

In an effort to reduce costs, many clinical laboratories and pathology groups have moved to a central lab system where almost all lab tests are sent. This has led to both patients and doctors incurring lengthy wait times often until the next day to learn the results, as well as myriad other inefficiencies.
