Black Health Takes Center Stage

Compared with white men, African-American men are twice as likely to suffer from prostate cancer and twice as likely to die from the disease. In light of this, it's reasonable to say that Garrett Davis' new play, "Daddy's Boys" – a family drama centered on the central character's fight with prostate cancer – has the potential to save lives, one show at a time. A Boston-based playwright, Davis owns and operates Gdavis Productions, an entertainment company that stages play about health and partners with nonprofits such as AARP. The works are designed to inform African-American audiences about disparities, risks, and steps to take in the event of a worst-case diagnosis.
