Healthcare Data Infrastructure Security Cannot Be Ignored During A Pandemic

Article | April 2, 2020

The rapid advancement of technology has inspired hope in the healthcare industry, promising to employ artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud-based data platforms in life-altering ways. Surgery assisting robots and miraculously accurate AI-based cancer diagnosis methods are a few preliminary examples of what the industry can expect. With all these great technological strides being taken, however, compliance can easily be left in the dust. And with COVID-19 pushing the limits of healthcare systems worldwide, it’s too easy for cybersecurity to become a lesser priority. The situation is bleak, with nearly 17,000 patient records being breached every day, according to Entech. Healthcare democratization is essential to fully harnessing the power of AI and other tech advancements on the horizon, which require compliant data distribution and the application of insights gathered from it. 6 Tips On How To Not Let Your Anxieties Get The Best Of You

Article | October 26, 2020

Everybody deals with stress and anxiety however our anxieties can sometimes get the best of us. It’s important to know how to cope with your anxieties and fears if they get out of control. With this in mind, here are some tips that a person can use to help manage their daily stresses and anxieties. 1. Take a break: Sometimes, we get stressed out when everything happens all at once. When this happens, a person should take a deep breath and try to find something to do for a few minutes to get their mind off of the problem. A person could take a walk, listen to some music, read the newspaper, or do an activity that will give them a fresh perspective on things. 2. Carry a small notebook of positive statements with you: Whenever you come across an affirmation that makes you feel good, write it down in a small notebook and carry it around in your pocket. Whenever you feel anxious, open up your small notebook and read those statements. 3: You can’t predict the future: While the consequences of a particular fear may seem real, there are usually other factors that cannot be anticipated and can affect the results of any situation. We may be ninety-nine percent correct in predicting the future, but all it takes is for that one percent to make a world of difference. 4. Challenge your negative thinking with positive statements and realistic thinking: When encountering thoughts that make you fearful or depressed, challenge those thoughts by asking yourself questions that will maintain objectivity and common sense. Focus on the reality of your situation and not on your thoughts. 5. Divide your activities into separate steps: When facing a current or upcoming task that overwhelms you with a lot of anxiety, divide the task into a series of smaller steps and then complete each of the smaller tasks one step at a time. Completing these smaller activities will make the stress more manageable and increases your chances of success. 6. Take advantage of the help that is available around you: If possible, talk to a professional who can help you manage your depression and anxieties. They will be able to provide you with additional advice and insights on how to deal with your current problem. HIPAA, Risk, & Hyper-Outsourcing Healthcare

Article | March 4, 2020

Ever-rising costs have forced the healthcare industry to tread a tightrope between containing costs and quality of service. In an effort to reduce costs, the healthcare industry relies on a large number of external resources. It’s not just administrative and clerical personnel such as call-center, scribes, and billing. Often essential service providers including therapists, clinicians, and physicians are drawn from a pool of external resources to help defray the overhead costs. This trend of hyper-outsourcing unintentionally raises privacy risk, especially regarding patient data.

COVID-19 predictions, Dunning-Kruger Effect and the Hippocratic Oath of a Data Scientist

Article | March 29, 2020

COVID-19 related data sources are fairly easy to find. Libraries in R and Python make it super easy to come up with pretty visualizations, models, forecasts, insights and recommendations. I have seen recommendations in areas like economics, public policy, and healthcare policy from individuals who apparently have no background in any of these fields. All of us have seen these 'data driven' insights. Some close friends have asked if I have been analyzing the COVID-19 datasets. Yes, I have been looking at these datasets. However, my analysis has been just out of curiosity and not with the intent of publishing my forecast or recommendations. I am not planning to make any of my analyses on COVID-19 dataset public because I sincerely believe that I am not qualified to do so.
