The FDA 510(k) approval for remote diagnostic usage of Philips Collaboration Live integrated tele-ultrasound extended to more mobile platforms

Collaboration Live has achieved an extension of its US Food and Drug Administration 510(k) market approval for remote diagnostic usage on more mobile platforms, according to Royal Philips a worldwide leader in health technology. Collaboration Live, available on Philips Ultrasound Systems EPIQ and Affiniti, enables doctors to work in real-time with colleagues to complete picture capture and diagnosis regardless of location.

One of the most accessible and low-cost imaging modalities is ultrasound imaging. However, capturing and analyzing the obtained pictures and establishing an accurate diagnosis need a significant amount of experience and talent. Even though ultrasound technology is commonly accessible in hospitals and other healthcare settings, significant personnel shortages might obstruct access to services. Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic exposed the danger to professionals who encounter infected patients, and the backlog of postponed examinations is now increasing workloads and pushing the demand for improved efficiency. Collaboration Live allows for remote diagnosis, increasing the capacity to picture patients both inside and outside healthcare institutions, and may help reduce the risk of infectious disease exposure for healthcare staff and patients, such as COVID-19.

Clinicians may now consult or diagnose from their mobile device, verify the strength of their bandwidth before making a call, and check their remote screen calibration to ensure picture quality is acceptable for diagnosis, thanks to its increased approval for diagnostic usage on more platforms. As a result, clinicians will work more efficiently and with more flexibility now that they are not restricted to using a PC for remote communication.

"We are committed to helping our customers deliver better access to care for their patients regardless of their location at any time. Collaboration Live is a perfect example of how Philips is delivering an expanded experience for patients and healthcare professionals through telemedicine. Sonographers no longer have to feel they are alone or limited to only acquiring ultrasound images and preparing a report for subsequent clinical review. Instead, they can now call on the expertise of colleagues during ultrasound examinations to deliver accurate on-the-spot diagnosis that every patient deserves.”

Gerois Di Marco, General Manager Global Ultrasound Services & Solutions at Philips

Users may chat, write, screen share, and video stream straight from a Philips Ultrasound System EPIQ or Affiniti to a compatible remote PC or mobile device using Philips Collaboration Live. In addition, the ultrasound user can give remote control of the ultrasound system to the remote user, allowing them to improve image quality, capture a new image, or make a measurement, in addition to allowing remote clinicians to view real-time diagnostic ultrasound images and communicate with the local clinician and patient to provide guidance and ask questions. Together with the option to examine the remote viewing screen's calibration, these characteristics give the high diagnostic confidence required to assist improve patient outcomes.

Through protocol training, remote assistance during ultrasound tests, and real-time communication between physicians and patients, Collaboration Live can help hospitals standardize treatment across sites and support remote employees, ensuring the same high level of care wherever it is provided. In addition, collaboration Live may be used in any field of medicine where ultrasound can give crucial diagnostic information, such as breast imaging and hepatology, and maternal foetal medicine when dealing with the possibility of high-risk pregnancies and cardiac imaging.
