How UMass Memorial Health Care Improved Operational Efficiencies within its Telestroke Network

UMass Memorial Health Care, the only designated Level I Trauma Center in Central Massachusetts, had a legacy telestroke program that was built using 14 different communication systems and required 21 steps to complete a consult. In an effort to simplify this program, UMass Memorial partnered with American Well to consolidate communication tools and automate workflows.

The hospital was established in 1960, and the present facility opened in 1983. In late 2009, CTMC completed a $35 million expansion and renovation on a 64,000 sq ft Women's Center that includes all private rooms, a Level II nursery and a new cardiac inpatient nursing unit with all private rooms. It also includes an on-site, high-risk delivery suite and a customized cesarean section suite.
