NURSES RESPONSIBILITY TO SELF-PROTECTION: REPORTING HIGH RISK SITUATIONS
Although all nurses attend orientation programs and continuing nursing education in their practice setting, learning is not enough. Nurses are often exposed to wide variations in practice and unstandardized care in real life, and sometimes are asked to perform tasks that may seem reasonable given the patient's needs but may be out of scope. How can nurses know what to do in such high-risk situations? This discussion will help the nurses protect their practice by understanding safe practice concepts, what it means to function within a high reliability organization, and operating within a just culture.
