Questions have swirled in the community about indigent healthcare after an announcement that a healthcare authority, with oversight from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, may take over daily operations at Cooper Green.In an April 3-2 vote, the Jefferson County Commission approved a measure to explore allowing UAB University Healthcare Authority to take control of daily operations at Cooper Green Mercy Health Services. The county would still own the center and be involved, but the authority would assume control of management and other daily operations.
