Anthem moves up launch of its PBM to second quarter of 2019

FierceHealthcare | January 30, 2019

Anthem is planning to begin moving members into its new PBM, IngenioRx, in the second quarter of 2019, bumping up the projected launch from 2020. Anthem announced the change as part of its fourth-quarter earnings (PDF), saying it moved up IngenioRx’s launch because Cigna closed its acquisition of Anthem’s current pharmacy benefit manager, Express Scripts. Anthem’s contract with Express Scripts will end on March 1, with the yearlong process of migrating members to IngenioRx beginning the next day, it said. Anthem CEO Gail Boudreaux said on the company’s earnings call Wednesday morning that the accelerated launch is “a key milestone in the realization of our vision and strategy.”  “IngenioRx will improve our ability to integrate the pharmacy benefit into our already strong medical and specialty platform,” Boudreaux said.

Habersham Medical Center first hospital in Georgia to adopt digital diagnostic image-sharing platform, PocketHealth

PocketHealth | June 18, 2022

Habersham Medical Center (HMC) announced that it will engage PocketHealth to help make it much easier for the hospital's 80,000 patients to access, share and store their medical imaging and reports securely on any device, enabling them to be more informed and active in their own healthcare journeys. Patients will no longer need to travel to the healthcare facility to collect a CD-ROM of their records and transport it to their next appointment or hope that their critical health information makes it safely to their primary care physician. With PocketHealth, HMC's patients will be able to actively engage in their own healthcare journey by accessing and sharing their imaging reports with their physicians, caregivers, or family members from any device, anywhere in the world. Physicians and other healthcare professionals who share and receive diagnostic images with Habersham will be able to work within the medical center's existing infrastructure and won't need to worry about additional software or account setup. They will be able to view patient imaging instantly in full diagnostic quality or import those images into their local PACS for diagnosis. "We are very excited to make the healthcare experience much easier than it has been for patients at Habersham Medical Center, and in implementing PocketHealth at our hospital, we are equipping patients to be participants in their own medical journey. Until now, when medical imaging and reports were shared it required our patients to make unnecessary trips to the site. Tyler Williams, President, and CEO of Habersham Medical Center PocketHealth equips healthcare providers with the most efficient and effective way to share medical imaging while bringing patients into the center of the process, fueling better outcomes through direct access to diagnostic imaging and reports. Patients can now request all of their imaging records from HMC on the PocketHealth website and gain better insights into their reports with PocketHealth's Report Reader functionality, which breaks down and defines complex medical terms found within radiology reports. "Diagnostic Imaging is essential to understanding a treatment course or for soliciting second opinions and can often be the spark for a long-term care journey," said Rishi Nayyar, co-founder and CEO, PocketHealth. "PocketHealth is thrilled to work with Habersham Medical Center to make it easy for patients and care providers to move through an image-based journey without the unnecessary frustration that often comes with records release and CD-ROM hardware." With the support of Loop-X, surgeons and staff gain flexibility and freedom of movement during surgery through access to high resolution 2D and 3D imaging. The independent movement of the imaging components and collimation capabilities allow non-isocentric imaging. Structures can be covered that are much larger—for example, the pelvis—but, patient tailored imaging now also covers much smaller areas—reducing the radiation volume to where it is needed. Beyond diagnostic imaging, this intelligent robot can capture partial information, “digitizing” anatomical intraoperative changes in order to update a “digital model” of the patient previously generated by aggregating pre-operative images. Heinz Deutschmann, CEO of medPhoton, looks forward to the expansion of the strategic partnership: "From the very beginning, Brainlab believed in the strength of our innovation, creativity and drive in the field of radiotherapy. Through our partnership, Brainlab provided us with significant support as we established our presence in the surgical device market and developed our production capabilities. Moving forward, we will continue to advance the production of Loop-X as well as coordinate research and development efforts to build next-generation systems with the objective of exploring new medical applications to improve surgical procedures and therapies. The majority acquisition by Brainlab is therefore the next logical step for us to achieve our most important goal: to advance research and development work at the highest level and expand the production of best-in-class medical technology to provide efficient therapies with optimal safety for patients." medPhoton will continue to operate as an independent research and development company within the Brainlab Group. Viemed Announces Publication of Peer-Reviewed NIVH Study Finding Treatment Reduces Healthcare Costs and Saves Lives

Viemed Healthcare, Inc. | July 06, 2022

Viemed Healthcare, Inc. a national leader in respiratory care and technology-enabled home medical equipment services, announced a third peer-reviewed and published study demonstrating the benefits of non-invasive ventilation at home The study, titled “Early Initiation of Non-Invasive Ventilation at Home Improves Survival and Reduces Healthcare Costs in COPD Patients with Chronic Hypercapnic Respiratory Failure: A Retrospective Cohort Study” was published in Respiratory Medicine, an internationally renowned scientific journal devoted to respiratory medical research. “In addition to the significant clinical benefits demonstrated in previously published papers, this study demonstrates that NIVH improves health outcomes while simultaneously driving down overall healthcare costs. The study was also designed to investigate how the timing of NIVH initiation affected the outcomes. The results showed that the clinical and financial benefits of NIVH are greatest when therapy begins immediately following the diagnosis.” Dr. William Frazier, Viemed’s Chief Medical Officer and co-author of the study Using the 100% research identifiable fee-for-service Medicare claims from 2016 through 2020, the researchers found that using NIVH to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with chronic hypercapnic respiratory failure is associated with significant reductions in mortality, hospitalizations, and total Medicare costs. In terms of cost-savings, Medicare expenditures for the year following NIVH initiation decreased by $5,484 compared to controls if treatment was begun within seven days of diagnosis. The cost reduction was $3,412 if NIVH was begun within 15 days of diagnosis. For patients whose therapy began more than 15 days after diagnosis, NIVH use was cost neutral and not associated with an increase in Medicare expenditures. The primary clinical benefit was a reduced mortality in patients treated with NIVH. When a patient began therapy within seven days of diagnosis, the risk of death was reduced by 43%. Those patients who began therapy between eight and 15 days following diagnosis showed a mortality reduction of 31%, and patients who began therapy between 16 and 30 days following diagnosis showed a mortality reduction of 16%. “NIVH is becoming widely accepted by clinicians as the standard of care for hypercapnic COPD-CRF treatment and this evidence supporting early initiation will help us to communicate the clinical and economic benefits to payors and partners,” said Casey Hoyt, Viemed’s CEO. “By accessing and treating more patients sooner, we can save lives, reduce hospital readmissions, and save money at the same time.” ABOUT VIEMED HEALTHCARE, INC. Viemed is a provider of in-home medical equipment and post-acute respiratory healthcare services in the United States. Viemed’s service offerings are focused on effective in-home treatment with clinical practitioners providing therapy and counseling to patients in their homes using cutting edge technology.
